Emerging from “a world where desire outweighs consequence”

flowers-to-birds-transition

The start of another year is a natural time for each of us to reflect on what we’ve achieved and where we’re headed. There was a heck of a lot of change going on for me as 2015 began (still is!) but it seemed that humanity as a whole was in an even greater state of upheaval than usual. Perspective is a useful thing. I knew I was in a state of transition and I knew roughly where I was headed (even if I hadn’t a clue how I was going to get there!) but were we, humanity, headed? My spirit guide Jy is never one to shy away from the big questions.

Global transition – with Jy – 9 January 2015

Your world is, indeed, in a state of transition – principally because it is in a state of “in decision”.

Do not mistake me. I do not mean that most people do not know what they want or what they should do. I mean precisely the opposite. I mean that too many people believe they know precisely what they want and how they should go about getting it. And that they feel free to take whatever action they see fit in order to obtain it.

With this situation there are two major problems. One is that most people do not give sufficient thought – sufficient feeling past the surface thought – to what they want. Such decisions are taken too swiftly and too superficially. What is beneath this wanting? What does your soul really need? The true need is often very different from what those individuals who rush toward action perceive it to be. Very different from what they set about creating or taking.

The second problem with precipitous action is that too often people do not pause to consider the possible effects on others of their obtaining what they want, or the effects of the actions they intend to take in order to obtain it. Worse still, people sometimes do consider these possible effects, and yet they choose to ignore them and continue with their planned actions.

Thus you are immersed in a world where desire outweighs consequence. Where action overwhelms consideration. A world where few act in a responsible way at all times – and by that I mean conduct their lives in a such way that they are prepared to take personal responsibility for each and every one of their actions.

Think what your world would look like, would feel like, if everyone only did things for which they were prepared to stand accountable. It would be a very different place indeed. It would not be a place where free will and enjoyment of one’s own life was eradicated. Oh, no! That is the false argument used by people who do not understand the concept of true freedom.

True freedom is freedom from fear – fear of the suffering which might be caused to you by another’s actions or which might be caused to others by your actions. True freedom is thus the freedom from guilt, from all unnecessary suffering or deprivation. To live a human life will always carry risks and present challenges – that is its nature and purpose. But think deeply on this: how many of the sufferings of the world are inevitable, are totally without an element of man-made choice which might have been avoided? If each person felt truly accountable for their own actions there would be far more room in the world, in each of your lives and days, for love, for pleasure, for compassion, for joy – for true freedom.

While the majority of humans tread the path of mindless obedience, mindless hedonism or anarchy, the world struggles to create harmony.

But there is hope and it is a growing hope. More and more people are waking up to the notion of true freedom and personal responsibility going hand in hand. This mindfulness is growing, in those already incarnated and in those who are now being born. Increasingly, souls are coming into the world with this awareness embedded in them so fundamentally that this is how they are choosing to live their lives from the beginning. Do not despair, humankind, for you are changing. You are in transition and this is a good thing!

And do not despair of the pace of that change. Each of your lifetimes is short and it may seem frustrating to those of you who already see this truth, have adopted this way of living, that so many others do not and have not. It may seem frustrating that things are not changing faster. Be at peace, know that the way each of you lives your individual life – with responsibility and compassion – has an effect on the whole, that it aids the transition. See the slowly changing picture in context. Remember how long it took for life as you know it now to evolve on your world. Remember what a minute amount of time (as you perceive time) the existence of humankind represents in the history of your world. Be patient with your fellow humans, meet ignorance with compassion, understand and accept the gradual nature of this change. Do not despair for the change is inexorable – it will happen.

Perhaps you will not see it come to fruition in your current incarnation but be content, know that the part you are playing in this transition is essential, vital. Know that each lifetime well lived – responsibly, kindly – adds to the momentum of change.

Humankind has immense power over the globe that is Mother Earth. Humankind creates its most powerful societies and its most potent disasters. But Mother Earth has always been, and will always be, superior. She has brought ages to a close, crushed civilisations and destroyed species with her immense power. Often, she has been given no choice. And so humankind, in all its slowly transitioning glory, must also learn to heed and respect Mother Earth’s role in its future.

Wake up, wake up, to the world that you live on. Heed Her warnings and respect Her needs as well as your own and those of your fellow man. Behave as responsibly toward Her as you do toward yourself and your fellow man. Give yourselves the best chance of a successful global transition by preserving that globe in all its glory.

For what is the use of humankind evolving in wisdom, in completing this transition many lifetimes’ hence, only the find that you have a wasted, blighted world on which to ‘enjoy’ your new freedoms? Better, then, to remember that personal responsibility begins at home in a much deeper sense – beyond the bricks and mortar, the neighbourhood streets and shops, the bordered country or the continent.

Live wisely in and on the world, my human friends. Live wisely with each other, with Mother Earth and your true self. Listen to each other, listen to the Mother, listen to your own heart and to your soul. Listen before you leap – and transition well.

Of dragons and unicorns – and breakfast

I love the tales of dragons, unicorns and fantastic creatures that feature in myths and storybooks. I’ve often wondered why such similar creatures figured in legends from across the world, across millennia. Did they once exist on the Earth or have men always had similar imaginations? Time to ask the one being that would know for certain – Mother Earth herself.

The role and purpose of mythical creatures – with Mother Earth – October 2014

The creatures of myth are but fears and dreams, hopes and concerns.

Watching the fire manifests the dragon. Will it consume me, or you? Will it eat my fear or become my fear? Will it consume the forest of lush rest and mellow, sustaining fruit? Or will you or I control it, let it use only the dead wood to create life-sustaining warmth and enable you to prepare sustenance?

Out of the fire may come the salamander, the dragon or tomorrow’s breakfast. Out of the waves may come galloping horses, born of the spray. Some may be horned as they respond to fight my fears, to pierce you to the heart with joy, to fill you with wonder.

The more mythical the creature, the more magnificent is your response – and so their purpose begins to emerge. When I wish to impress a thought, a desire, strongly upon you, this type of creature does so in a powerful, unforgettable way.

Thus such creatures come to you out of the waves, out of the fire; they rise out of clouds, or from cool lakes whose stillness is broken only by myth. They fall out of your dreams, whole and terrible or beautiful. The feelings they stir in you are so fierce, so all consuming, that you will always remember them.

Sometimes they are awesome in their beauty and peacefulness – the sudden stillness of the unicorn in a forest glade. Sometimes they are swift and fearsome in their anger – the fiery swoop of a dragon from the skies, raining terror upon you.

Always there is a purpose. Always these creatures are born out of my desire to impress something of importance upon you. They have no limits, as thoughts and imagination have no limits. They are my dreaming, my deepest desires, my hopes and fears and passions. Flow with them and together we manifest a brighter future for all.

The current that shapes the world

Each time I sit to write with my guides on a ‘big’ topic, I have to lay aside my nervousness and trust that Spirit are always ready to offer us insight.

The state of the world – Jy, 13 July 2014

First, we must consider what we mean by ‘the world’. Do we mean what is the ‘state’ of the world upon which you are all living i.e. what is the state of Mother Earth? Or do we mean what is the ‘state’ of the society in which humankind is living, upon that world? I suspect we mean both. An even bigger question!

Let us consider the first part, first. What is the ‘state’ of Mother Earth? Hmmm. On first observation, she would seem to be quite sickly, suffering from the effects of millennia of human occupation by a race whose self-serving ‘progress’ has been at the expense of the planet that gives them life and is their only home.

To begin with, man lived in harmony with nature, respecting its rhythms and its periods of rest. But man’s insatiable curiosity and cleverness has led to his capability to control the environment around him. To plunder the Earth for fuel which affects the atmosphere. To grow crops until the soil is exhausted, then create chemicals to grow more without thought for the harm they might do you and the soil into which you salt them. To farm the Earth’s creatures in increasingly cruel ways without regard for their wellbeing, where animal feeds upon animal in ways Mother Nature never intended.

When you examine, from a larger perspective, the ways in which humankind has manipulated nature and then accept that you did so without knowledge of the possible long-term consequences but thinking only of short-term gain, it is no wonder that Mother Earth is at last rebelling. She heaves and curses, she storms and floods, she freezes and burns, she erupts and trembles. Seasons change and the icy landscapes melt. The canopy of atmosphere unravels. Her raiments are coming undone.

And yet she is strong. She loves her unruly children and if only a few learn to behave, she will prevail for them all. Mother Earth is generous and bountiful. She is forgiving. She knows humankind acts out of ignorance – the wilfulness of ignorant children. She is fighting back but she needs the help of those children who are sensitive to her rhythms. She does not expect a return to the old days. Man must instead use his newly acquired knowledge for her good as well as his own. Science can build in harmony with her as well as destroy. The knowledge already exists for the most part but what holds it back from being deployed is greed. For often, the most harmonious way is not the cheapest. Greed prevents many eco-friendly scientific discoveries from seeing the light of day. This is what must change. This is what the collective minds and hearts and will of the responsible few must achieve for the many and for Mother Earth. Choose wisely, choose responsibly, refuse the easy, cheap choices that destroy the world that gives you life. You have a responsibility not only to yourselves but also to those who come after you.

The air you breathe, the soil that supports you, the fire that warms you, the water that quenches your thirst – these are more valuable than any wealth you might accumulate, more essential than any false sense of security you acquire through status or possessions. They are to be cherished as closely and dearly as those people you love best.

Treat Mother Earth with respect and she will be calm and bountiful in return. Never consider that your efforts alone cannot change society’s behaviour, for you can only be responsible for yourself. You can only set an example for others to follow if they so choose. Have faith in yourself and in others, as Mother Earth has faith in you.

Now, to consider “the state of the world” as in the society that humankind has created and in which you live.

At first sight, again, an apparently depressing prospect. Wars are rife, inequality even more so. Half the world starves while the other grows unhealthily obese. The haves and have nots are as evident now as at any time in humankind’s history.

Why have not all your discoveries, all your cleverness, all your knowledge of science, all your crop rotations and transport capabilities led to equality across the globe? There are no medieval fiefdoms any more and yet with them died the responsibility of the rich to look after the poor. Better still the society in which there is no such divide – but to do away with feudalism without introducing equality can hardly be regarded as progress, can it?

A bleak picture then – a world spiralling towards chaos rather than away from it? No. Nothing so dreadful.

It is true that the world – that society – is as yet far from ideal. But it is also true that society is now occupied by many more individuals for whom autonomy is the reality and by countless others for whom autonomy is the goal. They do no wish to be looked after; they wish to be self-sufficient. They do not seek charity – though they may need it in the short term to prevent extinction – they seek instead the means to help themselves.

This could never have happened in a totally tribal or feudal society. It is possible now. What is missing is the global recognition of the need for personal responsibility alongside independence and self-sufficiency. If ‘I’ have too much, take too much, more than I need to be self-sufficient, then I am responsible for my neighbour’s inability to thrive. It is not enough to keep yourself to yourself – you cannot harm no-one by ignoring everyone. If you examine the state of the world in which you live – the state of society – its ills are all, every one of them, the consequences of ignoring the needs of others to serve one’s own needs, or of trying to control others by manipulating their needs.

You, as a reincarnated soul, cannot change the world. But you can change yourself – your behaviour – and that will have an energetic effect on the world, on the people and the society around you. One ripple is not the ocean, but it is an essential part of that ocean. The ripples join, flowing together to make the wave, and the waves together become the currents and the currents of the oceans help shape the world.

Be the world you want to live in. Be the life you best can be. There is much truth in the old adage ‘do as you would be done by’. Take responsibility for your actions, always. Be kind but do not seek to control others by smothering them with kindness. Share but do not regard it as charity. There is no such thing as charity. A gift is a joy when it is given with purity of spirit; it is merely the sharing of resources to create equality and harmony in the world. Give and expect nothing in return. And when it is your turn to receive, do so with humility and thankfulness. Accept that it is your right and natural state to be equal.

The world has enough for all – only the distribution is at fault and that is something entirely in the hands of humankind and a situation entirely of your own making. Learn to give and to receive in a state of grace and a state of balance will result. Be the graceful ripple that becomes part of the graceful wave, the current that shapes the world.

To change the world you must change yourself. And in so doing you will learn more than you ever thought possible. You will know more joy than you ever believed could be yours to experience. The state of the world is not something to fear – for it is yours to embrace. You are the world. Do not fear yourself. You are capable of great change, great learning, and great joy. It is never too late – even the last day of a life, lived well, is a ripple the world needs. Every day you live is an opportunity to embrace.

Begin, my friends – seize the moment, quell your fears.
